How to set up mobile hotspot in your Windows 10 laptop? Why even write such a post, you might ask. We all have been in a situation where we wished we were able to share our laptop’s Internet connectivity with other devices like smartphones and tablets. This particularly happens if your home or office has a wired router instead of a wifi router. Even if you are using a Wifi router, it might have some range restrictions. This hack will help extend that to a longer range.
Well, happens that you can turn your Windows 10 device into a hotspot. Just follow the instructions we provide as below to do just that:
What will you need to setup mobile hotspot in Windows 10?
You will need the following to setup mobile hotspot in Windows 10:
A laptop with in-built Wifi or Wifi adapter
A router or external Hotspot
Windows 10 Insider preview build
Step 1: Turn on Wifi
Turn on the wifi connection by clicking on the button located in your taskbar. It will have three settings including Wifi, Airplane mode and Mobile hotspot. Click on Mobile Hotspot
Step 2: Change default password settings
Clicking on the mobile hotspot button will activate the connection for which the system assigns a default password. Now unless you use the same default password or set a new one that is easy to remember, granting access for newly added devices will be difficult.
Step 3: Setup new password
To change the default password, go to PC Settings -> Network & Internet. You will see the Mobile Hotspot option in the left panel, clicking on which will open its individual properties. Now click on Edit which will open the network info for your desktop.
You can change the network password here. Do not forget to save the changes before you close the box.
That’s it you’re done. The mobile hotspot for your Windows 10 laptop is now created. You can now connect Android or devices to the Internet by turning on the Mobile Hotspot in your laptop.
In the earlier versions, turning on the Mobile Hotspot in Windows 10 laptop will disconnect the connectivity for the laptop. It was not possible to maintain the connection and share the connection with additional devices.
Moreover, there was no graphical user interface like what is available now. One had to use commands to turn on the mobile hotspot. Hence, it was literally impossible for novice users.
But with the Windows 10 Insider Build preview, you can share your Internet across other devices. And, without having to upgrade your hardware or making any serious software changes.
Note: Only Windows 10 Insider Builds have this provision right now.
